Tube's Reasons For Watching The Tube

I'm reading: Tube's Reasons For Watching The TubeTweet this!

Tube:

Last week of classes... which basically means I’ve done nothing but write essays, study for exams and prepare for presentations. Also, another GG pause until Apr. 20th – what a tease. Deprivation is a b&tch non? Since I’ve been making so many lists of things to do recently, I thought I might as well make a list of why I love TV (b/c I do!). Everyone tells me I watch too much and that they’re surprised that I actually have the time to do it. Well, here are a few reasons why I make time to cuddle with my cable (in no particular order):

  • Escapism. How better to escape the stress and annoyances in the world than to just sit for a few hours and just lose yourself in something else. For some it’s music, for others it’s sports but since I have zero musical talents, a need for visuals and no athletic motivation, I enjoy TV. A great show to me delivers characters you actually feel for, hilarious lines, and delicious plot twists that can make you forget how much everything else sucks. Cheers to Nip/Tuck being back on (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361217/)!
  • Education. While there are many trashy shows, there are also lots of shows that’ll open your eyes about the world. I’m not talking about the hardships of a wedding like on Rich Bride, Poor Bride but programs like Daily Planet and insightful looks into issues like child prostitution in Asia on The Passionate Eye. Oh right, and the news.
  • Digestion. It’s not good for you to sit (or lie down) right after you eat so you should stand up for at least 15 minutes after you eat. Standing up and staring at nothing can be boring so why not pop on the tube for a bit? If not for digestion then just imagine all the weight going to your ass. Exactly, I think I’ve made my point.
  • A reminder. I can never watch an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition without crying. Along with World Vision informercials, they’re a reminder that there are those who have gone through a lot in their lives; ones who are less fortunate and make me appreciate what I have. Then there are the “reality” shows like The Hills that remind how transparent and fake people can be and it makes me appreciate the people I have in my life and the fact that eyes don’t wander up as I talk ( http://labelleetleblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/audrina-patridge-hit-by-nude-naked-pictures-scandal3.jpg).

As I wrote this I realized I have many more reasons so tune in next week for the rest of my list!
