Both countries were so beautiful that it would be disrespectful to smoosh highlights from each together. Thus, it’s going to be a two-parter. Which one do you want to hear about first? Ha, like you get a choice. Morocco it is!
My friend and I joined a tour since we weren’t sure if we could handle North Africa on our own. After getting our feet wet a bit, I can say that I would feel confident to go back on our own. The people there are really friendly, especially in the smaller villages (and no I don't mean the ones trying to pull you into their shops). It was funny because while we were intrigued by them, they were intrigued by us since we were Chinese and I'm guessing my people don't trek over to Africa often. Of course everyone thought we were Japanese at first since I guess Japanese people travel a lot. After awhile I got tired of telling people I was from Canada with a Chinese background and just said konichiwa back when they greeted me. A few times I got caught because some Moroccans actually knew some Japanese in order to further their business!
Of course a big part of visiting any foreign country is their food. We ate A LOT of tagines, brochettes (basically, kebabs) and couscous. Everything was really flavourful and always bad a nice mixture of textures in there. Tagines are stews so things were typically pretty mushy but they would have some nuts in it for extra crunch, prunes for extra tang or mystery spices to keep you on your toes. Wheat is a major crop in Morocco so for those full 10 days it was a major carb-fest.
Best meal I had in Morocco – the tenderest chicken and fluffiest couscous.
Beef tagine with nuts and prunes.
The sights that we saw were absolutely amazing. I don’t use a cheesy word like “breathtaking” often but the sights were indeed breathtaking. Looking back at pictures now, none of it even looks real. Even standing on top of a mountain looking out at the full panoramic view it seemed completely unreal. None of the pictures you see here will do it justice. For you next vacation, consider Morocco – it is gorgeous.
Was surprised at how nice just the airport was.
View of Ait ben Haddou from mountain top.
Natural rock formation of a heart.
Palmerie in Agdz. There are approx. 5 million palm trees in Morocco.
Camping in nomad tents in the desert.
Sunset in Tiznit – city known for its fine silver crafts.
Beaches and port in Agadir. So nice!!
Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech.
Djemme el Fna square which is the centre of the souks where you get can super fresh orange juice for $0.50CDN (!!), street foods and watch performers.
