Tube Review: Modern Family & Cougar Town

I'm reading: Tube Review: Modern Family & Cougar TownTweet this!
Wednesdays are great non? Middle of the week – you’ve gotten past the sad thoughts of being back in the office/at school after an awesome weekend, and an even better weekend is just on the horizon 2 days away. What’s better is that there’s an hour of pick-me-up TV to energize you for the duration of the week. Modern Family and Cougar Town are two of the funniest shows prime time comedy shows I’ve seen since How I Met Your Mother – deeelightful!

Modern Family
“One big (straight, gay, multi-cultural, traditional) happy family” – 9pm EST CityTV

These days the hetero couple with the 2.5 kids living in the suburbs just ain’t gonna cut it. Here we’ve got Jay (Ed O’Neal) the family patriarch married to hot Latina Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and welcomed her son from a previous marriage. Jay’s got two kids – Claire (Julie Bowen) your typical blond yummy mummy married to cool dad Phil (Ty Burrell), and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) the fab gay married to his cuddly partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet). The way Phil tries to stay hip with kids will crack you up and remind you of when your dad tries to be buddies with you and your friends but is an epic embarrassing disaster. The way Mitch & Cam poke fun at their own gayness and live up to stereotypes is amazing. Watch the pilot and if you’re not in tears by the end of it then I’ll let you off the hook, but this show is FUNNY. Many have compared it to Arrested Development, which I’ve never personally seen but I’ve heard many great things.

Cougar Town “A sexy new comedy” – 9:30pm EST CityTV

Haven’t you heard? Cougars are in. Who’d be best to play a hot cougar (besides Demi Moore)? Why Courtney Cox of course. I dunno about you guys but after Chandler, Monica was my favourite on Friends. And Courtney Cox delivers again as sexy Jules who’s raising her son Travis (Dan Byrd) and out taking on the world of hot 20-something guys. Rawwwr. The humour comes from the detailing of what cougars do to (1) stay young (she sucks on chocolate for 3 seconds and spits it out!), and (2) teach their boyfriends how to be better (make out with an apple). It’s just so funny because it’s things we all think when we hear “cougar” but now it’s all in front of you with Courtney Cox’s great comedic timing. Watch it.

Am looking forward to tomorrow night already!
